Botox aftercare- 5 things you should not be ignored

No single person is completely immune from skin troubles as everyone faces one or the other skin issues. Every day, we hear plenty of people saying that they deal with fine lines, wrinkles, acne, pimples, excessive sweating, and whatnot.

Back in time, people used home remedies to get rid of such issues, but now, there are many cosmetic and beauty treatments that go a long way in helping people fight it. One such treatment which helps treat fine lines, wrinkles, and excessive sweating is botox.

Thanks to its efficiency, results, and low risk, botox is the most popular non-invasive facial treatment in the cosmetic industry. But like other cosmetic treatments, botox also requires some aftercare to give you the long-lasting and best results. Here are some of the aftercare tips for botox injections.

About botox

Botox is a kind of cosmetic drug which, for some time, paralyzes the muscles. If used in high portions, it can cause poison. In one way or the other, it is associated with contaminated food. As far as it is about safety, then botox injections are highly safe to use. Using a diluted amount of toxin to stop the muscles from contracting, the botox injections help the wrinkles to become soft and relax.

Many people think that botox injections only cure fine lines and wrinkles. But not many people know that it is also used to treat other conditions as well. The other conditions fixed by the botox include:

Chronic migraine

Excessive sweating

Lazy eye

Neck spasms

Botox aftercare instructions

The sole goal of botox aftercare is to give the patients optimal results. Besides this, it minimizes the risk of bruising and spreading to other areas. Here are some of the best practices to follow for the botox aftercare:

Resume your normal activities

Some people think that they will have to bring their life or routine activities to a sudden halt. But it is not so as there is no recovery time as such. There is no need for anyone undertaking the botox injections to take a day off from their work or job. Right after availing of the treatment, you can resume your activities.

Wait for exercise

Some people are very concerned about their health and workout regime. Such people need to wait for some hours to exercise when undergoing botox treatment. It will be best for you to ask your doctor about the same as he might suggest you wait for several days.

Many doctors ask the patients to avoid exercise as it increases the blood flow and can spread the toxin to other body parts. Not only this, but exercise also contracts the muscles and thereby decreases the toxin's effectiveness. This, in turn, will lessen the effectiveness of the treatment and also the risk of bruising.

But it is best to do some light facial exercises like frowning, raising your eyebrows, and smiling.

No make up

After getting the botox injections, you need to go makeup-free for at least a day. It is so because applying the makeup will rub the skin and disperse off the toxin. Consequently, it is best to go makeup-free for some days.

Sit up

For the first four hours after getting botox, sit up. If you bend or lie down, it might spread the toxin to other areas and cause you bruising.

Ask about medications

If you are thinking about getting some medications after getting the botox injections, stop right there as it may harm you. You can ask your doctor about the same for the best and only have it if your doctor recommends doing so.

Refrain from having alcohol

When taking the botox injections, your doctor may ask you to refrain from having alcohol for some hours after the treatment. It is so because it increases the risk of bruising. Even after the procedure, this stays true. Before consuming alcohol, wait for at least 24 hours after getting an injection.

Avoid touching face

For at least 1 day after the treatment, you should not touch your face to avoid spreading the toxin. Some doctors also suggest waiting for 3 days or more. Contrary to it, if you get the injections on other body areas, you should also avoid touching that. As a result, refrain from getting any kind of professional massages on the treated area. If you are willing to do so, then schedule your appointment several days later.

Avoid skin treatments

Firstly, let the botox sink into your body and then opt for some other cosmetic treatments. Avoid other skin therapies for the first 24 hours like facial massages, exfoliating scrubs, dermal fillers, and other facial treatments. If you get these treatments with botox, then the effectiveness of the botox tends to decrease.

Avoid resting on the side of the treated area

When you sleep on the treated area, the pressure on that side increases. Consequently, avoid sleeping in the treated area and give some time to the botox also to set into your muscles. It will be best if you do not sleep at all after 4 hours of the procedure.

Refrain from sun exposure

For a day or two, one should avoid sun exposure as this will increase your blood pressure. This, in turn, will increase bruising. Besides direct sun exposure, you should avoid other forms of sun exposure like hot tubs, showers, saunas, and tanning beds.

Side effects of botox

It's usual for people to have redness, tenderness, and swelling after getting botox. In one day or two, these side effects will vanish. Other than this, some people also complain of bruising. For relief, you can apply ice packs on the same. You will see the bruising vanish away in around 2 weeks. But if you see any severe side effects like difficulty in breathing, swallowing, then consult the doctor immediately.

Conclusion

These were some of the best practices to be followed for the botox aftercare as this will get you the optimal results in minimal time.
